 GETTING THERE

Base Location

Nahanni Wilderness Adventures' home office is located in Canmore, Alberta. Our Nahanni Base Camp is located at Lindberg Landing on the Liard Trail between Fort Liard and Fort Simpson. Lindberg Landing is a 'paddle in' or 'drive in' homestead and Bed and Breakfast owned and operated by Edwin and Sue LIndberg. The Lindberg family history in this area dates back to the 1920's. This was long before the road was built. Until 1985 the Liard River was the means of travelling through the area. It is still the means of accessing the 'Outside' for the community of Nahanni Butte and our groups descending the Nahanni River. Lindberg Landing is located 3 kilometers east of Blackstone Territorial Park, see number 26 on the Deh Cho Travel Connection's Interactive Map. CLICK HERE TO VIEW MAP

Nahanni Wilderness Adventures also has a satellite base in Fort Simpson.

Trip Staging Areas

The staging area for your Nahanni River trip will depend on which trip you are joining.

Our First Class canoe and raft trips start at either Virginia Falls or Rabbitkettle Lake. Charter flights to these points depart from our flight dock on the Liard River at Lindberg Landing. Participants can fly into Fort Nelson or Fort Simpson. Our road and shuttle service will pick you up at the airport and transport you to our Lindberg Landing Base. If you are driving North, you should come right to our Lindberg Landing Base. Your guides will be waiting for you. Parking is available at the base while you are on your trip. Our First Class trips will spend their last night at Lindberg B&B.

Our Nahanni Watershed Rendezvous trips meet at the Fort Nelson Airport on day 1 of the trip itinerary. Our shuttle service will transport the trip members west along the Alaska Highway to Watson Lake and then north to a staging area near the mining town of Tungsten. Our Nahanni Watershed Rendezvous trips will spend their last night at Blackstone Territorial Park.

Travelling North By Air

Fort Nelson
Commercial flights to Fort Nelson are available with Central Mountain Air. Connecting flights can be booked from the major centres in western Canada such as Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Tickets can be booked online at www.flycma.com. Central Mountain Air accepts AIR MILES. The route through Fort Nelson is your most economical means of reaching the Nahanni River.

Fort Simpson
To arrive in Fort Simpson you will book a ticket with First Air from Edmonton via Yellowknife. Tickets can be booked online at www.firstair.ca. First Air accepts AERO PLAN.

Travelling North By Road

Driving North is a popular method of travel with our trip participants coming from western Canada. However, the majority of people fly into Fort Nelson. If you plan to drive, the Deh Cho Travel Connection's website offers plenty of information to help make the most of your road trip. Connecting highways create an interesting loop between Alberta, the Northwest Territories and British Columbia.
Please see, www.dehchotravel.com

Please see, Deh Cho Interactive Map. Our Lindberg Landing Base is located 3km east of Blackstone Territorial Park. See number 26 on the interactive map.

We recommend that you use this resource and plan your drive well in advance. You will need to ensure that your vehicle is in good running condition. Full size spare tires (2) are recommended along with a spare gas container.

Please note that the station know as Check Point at the junction of highways 1 and 7 is closed.

Paved and Gravel Highways

The Liard Trail No.7 is paved north of the Alaska Highway to the boundary between British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. Gas and supplies are available a short distance further at Fort Liard. LIndberg Landing is another 120km up the road.

The Mackenzie Highway No.1 continues north of Peace RIver. You will want to refuel in Enterprise, N.T. The road is paved as far as the junction with Highway 3 to Yellowknife.

Keep In Mind

Due to the frontier nature of the Nahanni and other wilderness adventure destinations travel in and out of the North can create a number of logistical challenges. Your flight charter into the river is susceptible to the weather, and resources are limited. Considering the trip north as part of the adventure holiday is a positive way to work through any unforeseen events. We have over two decades in the North and will do all we can to ensure your trip runs smoothly.
